PTT Scores Big!

We are so lucky to have such a great parent organization at Periwinkle Elementary. Recently the PTT helped fund the ordering of new playground equipment. The contribution was about $11,000.00 in cash and solicited companies for the concrete and the setup. We will be asking for volunteers to help put the equipment together when we know more about the shipping.

Another great present to the school was the painting and decorating of the primary-side bathrooms.  Both bathrooms were dark and dated. The girl’s bathroom was completed last spring painted in pink with owls. The boy was just completed with a Star Wars theme. The students love them!

Every year the PTT supplements our school’s budget with classroom grants as well as funds for the purchasing of technology. We recently ordered additional Chromebooks with a $1,500.00 gift. Teachers receive $100.00 each for their classroom.

We are so grateful!

Fitness Fundraiser

We had our best Fitness Fundraiser in years. We grossed over $7,000.00! A good share of these funds is going toward the purchase of 30 Chromebooks. The Kindergarten will use the funds they raised toward their Spring Field Trip.

The names of the top six students who brought in the most in donations were put into a drawing for putting a pie in the face of the principal. Paislee Woodstock did the honors at the closing assembly October 28th.

Periwinkle fifth-grade students start school in library

Posted on: September 6, 2016

More than 60 fifth-grade students took over the school library at Periwinkle Elementary School this week. The students will use the temporary classroom space until the new modular classrooms are ready in mid-September.

The students from Kristyn Kohler’s (pictured, right) and Mercedes Strowbridge’s classrooms will share the library space and learn as a group until they split up during the move to the new classrooms.

The new classroom space is being added at the school because of high enrollment growth in the attendance area.

See updated lead results on water testing page

Posted on: August 31, 2016

GAPS submitted water samples for lead testing at all schools and facilities this summer. The labs are returning results as fast as possible but have high demand from school districts around the state.

We are repairing and then retesting all fixtures with elevated lead levels. Any fixture with tests showing elevated lead levels will be kept out of service until tests show that they no longer exceed allowable lead levels set by the EPA.
