Free LBCC parenting classes start next week

Linn Benton Community College is offering free parenting classes at three sites, starting in January. Classes are free and include dinner and child care.

The Albany class is The Incredible Years. It will run from Jan. 10 to March 21 at DHS, 118 2nd Avenue.

For families with children ages 2–10. Raise responsible children! Use play and praise to build a more cooperative relationship with your children. Learn how to make clear family rules. Prevent and reduce behavior problems. Improve your children’s social skills.

Attendance Matters….every school day counts!

Research has proven that there is a high correlation between school attendance and academic performance and success, while absence from school is often the greatest single cause of poor performance and achievement.

Why is it important to attend every day?

-Learning is a progressive activity; each day’s lessons build upon those of the previous day(s).
-Regular student participation in daily classroom activities plays a significant role in a student’s school success.

Albany Public Schools Foundation funds more than $37,000 in classroom grants

Albany Public Schools Foundation announced classroom grant awards for 67 projects, totaling $37,683. The annual awards provide funds to enhance classroom projects and educational experiences.

APSF raises money every year to support GAPS schools through the annual iSwim, iRun and iCelebrate Gala fundraisers.

Any teacher in the district can apply for a classroom grant. This year, there were 79 proposals for projects including electronics, robotics, art, reading music and PE.
